DJ Hoskins — Men's Basketball
Freshman guard DJ Hoskins (Dayton, Ohio // Victory Rock Prep) had great contibrution in the weeekends contests against newly added GLIAC member, Purdue Northwest Thursday (Jan. 4) night followed by Grand Valley State Saturday (Jan 6) afternoon. Hoskins posted 13 points, two assists and two steals in his 32 minutes of action against the Pride and followed with another double-digit scoring night with 14 points against the Lakers.
The Cardinals will return to action on Thursday (Jan. 11) at Wanye State University. Tip-off is slated for 7:30 p.m. in the Matthaei Center.
Laurel Jacqmain — Women's Basketball
Freshman forward Laurel Jacqmain (Saginaw, Mich. // Nouvel Catholic HS) earns SVSU athlete of the week honors for great efforts in the weekends contests against Purdue Northwest and Grand Valley State.
During the 60-52 win over the Pride Thursday (Jan. 4) night, Jacqmain posted a team high of 14 points and three steals, earning the "Meijer" Player of the Game honors. She added five rebounds and two assists, as well. At GVSU, she posted three steals against the Lakers. She added four points and three rebounds to round off the weekends contests.
Jacqmain is currently leading the team in free throw percentenage with 78.8 going 41-of-52 this season. She also is leading the freshman class with most minutes played at 390 and is second overall on the team by three minutes behind junior Hannah Settingsgaard.
The Cardinals will continue on the road against Wayne State on Thursday (Jan. 11) night. The Warriors are coming off a 76-43 win over Lake Superior State over the weekend. Tip-off is slated for 5:30 p.m. in the Matthaei Center.
